upcycling 101 - Materials you use in workshops
Candles
In partnership with local coffee shops, we are able to provide students and clients with some of the most beautiful items a glass cutter could use to master this craft - upcycled bottles. Participants will cut and sand glass, then melt organic soy wax - leaving the day's workshop with a candle to take home.
Centerpieces
Salvaged, stripped and roughly prepared pallet wood is used to create beautiful dinner table center pieces.I'm your Materials section. Click to edit and tell your visitors about this component. Students and clients take a piece of discarded wood through several lifecycles. Participants break down a pallet, the design, measure and drill their project. Each participant takes home a candle holder/centerpiece. Participants learn to use a variety of tools during this session.
Picture Frames
Intermediate makers/crafters are challenged to measure, sand, and assemble 4 mitred corners. At the conclusion of this session, each student will have a picture frame to take home and some will leave having mounted their matted artwork into the picture frame they assembled.

How we came up with the idea
As one walks through our Hilltop community, it is not hard to see the amazing potential. At a glance, you will see brick buildings, beautiful lawns, and old trees. It is also easy to see some of the pain and struggle that neighbors are dealing with. An amazing quality of the Hilltop is that of community and resilience. H3MakerSpaces serves to amplify opportunities for neighbors to upcycle, develop skills, and to share resources.
